Overview & Highlights

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Sibu, Malaysia, Chuang Yang Seafood Restaurant stands out as a compelling destination for seafood aficionados and casual diners alike. Located at Jln Lanang Barat, this eatery is well-known for its commitment to delivering fresh and flavorful seafood dishes that cater to families and friends gathering for a delightful meal.

As I approached the restaurant, I was intrigued by the mixed reviews regarding the dining experience. Many patrons rave about the quality of the seafood, noting that it is one of Sibu's best-kept secrets. Robertus, a satisfied customer, insists that Chuang Yang truly knows how to prepare seafood, particularly highlighting the live offerings as a must-try. The decision to serve meals in both open-air and air-conditioned settings allows guests to enjoy their food comfortably, making it ideal for any weather.

The ambiance may not provide a river view due to nearby factories, but the focus here is on the culinary experience. Customers like DoubleDouble Gum and Severina Teo emphasize the restaurant's diverse menu, where dishes like the grilled salt-covered tilapia, black pepper crab, and paper-wrapped chicken have earned high praise. The reviewed affordability of festival packages further enhances its appeal, making it a go-to venue for both special occasions and everyday dining.

However, walls of mixed opinions surround some menu items, illustrating the restaurant’s journey toward culinary perfection. While dishes like the fried mani and salt fish received positive nods for their bold flavors, other selections seemed to miss the mark for some diners, underlining the importance of consistency in a bustling restaurant environment. The occasional critique regarding portion sizes suggests that diners should perhaps consider sharing plates to best appreciate the extensive menu.

For those seeking a refreshing end to their meal, ZHI HUI's experience with coconut jelly was noteworthy, though it noted that sweetness could be overwhelming for some palates. Balancing flavors in desserts, much like the main entrees, remains crucial in ensuring an unforgettable dining experience.

In essence, Chuang Yang Seafood Restaurant promises a vibrant journey through the world of seafood, inviting guests to indulge in both classic and innovative dishes. While there may be a few speed bumps along the way, the hearty recommendations from loyal patrons serve as a testament to the restaurant's dedication to savor and satisfy. Whether you’re a seafood lover or simply in search of quality dining, this establishment beckons with flavorful offerings at an accessible price point.

Good place for friends and family to have dinner or lunch. Affordable packages available during festival. Personally, the portion of foods are quite small for 5 adults as shown in the pictures. That grilled salt-covered tilapia fish is a must-order while visiting to this restaurant!

Salt fish, belacan midin, fried mani and fried squid with salted egg were delicious, the other just taste so so. For me the coconut jelly was just too sweet. Overall it was a pleasant experience to have dinner here.

Under the bridge ,next to Bosshill Wharf is this Seafood Restaurant with no River view, no access to the Riverfront. Its being blocked by some factories or shipyard! Food is a letdown, warm old coconut juices served , no chance to savour the coconut kernel flesh ,we wanted kum hiong but was served sweet & sour Crabs dish. Crabs are fresh though. Stir fried midin sauce is sour ,soya sauce wild boar is tough, skin tasted like rubber. Did not enjoy the dinner as we were bitten by mosquitoes !

This restaurant knows how to cook the seafood. I think this is the best live seafood restaurant at Sibu. I really recommend it. The place has open and Air-condition room. The parking lot is many. I suggest if you want Empurau fish, order it few days before.

Went there family and friends. Overall dishes were good. Still have some other dishes that we would like to try next time. The paper wrapped chicken was nice. The sauce and the salted bake fish were good. The Guinness pork was delicious. If you like crabs, the black pepper crab is good as well.

If you're into fish, great and small, they have them all here. Make sure you're armed with a fistful of dollars if you are willing to try the most expensive item on the menu.
